Neighbourhoods

Eight local areas of the UBC Campus, identified in a planning process overseen by the Greater Vancouver Regional District, are envisioned as distinct neighbourhoods, each with its own character and focal point. The neighbourhoods will mix housing, businesses, parks, community centres and amenities in a pedestrian-friendly setting close to the university's academic, cultural and recreational facilities.

These emerging neighbourhoods will be a source of affordable housing and an important drawing card to attract and retain top faculty, students and staff and reduce the number of vehicles coming to the campus. As well, non-university community members will form an important part of the residential mix. The neighbourhoods will also support a lively community atmosphere around campus, day and night.
