Introduction

The University Neighbourhoods Association (UNA) will approximate a municipal council for the local areas on campus, promoting the creation of a vibrant, sociable, safe and diverse university town community at UBC. The UNA's Board of Directors is comprised of nominees from UBC and the AMS, and in time will incorporate elected directors from the local areas on campus.  The UNA office will operate from the Cecil Green Park Coach House.

The UNA will be responsible for local regulation (such as animal and parking control, as well as community programs and recreation, elections, landscaping, noise control, recycling, refuse collection, trails) and liaison for the use of UBC facilities. Residents' concerns, opinions and views will be heard through the UNA, and it will help shape future development and the allocation of community facilities.

In the coming decades, residential neighbourhoods will be established at UBC and administered by UNA community-based directors, initially appointed by the University and the student-
run Alma Mater Society (AMS); over time, residents will elect a majority of UNA directors.

For a more complete description of the UNA's background (including how and why the Association came into existence) browse to the Constitution and Bylaws page.
